Arches and openness — the new framing connects the cooking core to the dining room and beyond.
Book-matched Carrara marble island with a brass bridge faucet, walnut cutting board, and glass-front upper cabinets
Detail · 02
The Carrara was selected and laid out with the client on site; the island's unavoidable seam was book-matched into something intentional.
Glass-front upper cabinets lined with plain-sliced white oak, holding ceramics and glassware above a marble counter
Detail · 03
Plain-sliced white oak lines the glass-front uppers, color-matched to the floors.
Wolf range with red knobs under a marble slab backsplash with a solid bronze pot filler
Detail · 04
A working heart — solid bronze pot filler, marble run, and a Wolf range with red-knob accents.
Kitchen drawer with custom maple compartments organizing cutlery and knives
Detail · 05
Custom maple compartments, cut to the client's own knives, utensils, and everyday tools.
Kitchen island with custom V-groove paneling, wide-plank oak floors, and arched openings beyond
Detail · 06
The V-groove island — panel spacing calculated to four and three-eighths of an inch so hardware and outlets fall on center.
Build Narrative

What began as a kitchen remodel became a larger transformation of the home's main living areas. Flooring expanded beyond the kitchen into the living room, office, hallway, and entry; a gas fireplace was added; skylights were brought into the kitchen; and the entry was reframed into a more open, gracious arrival point.

The design direction balanced rustic Mexican modernism, Italian Tuscan influence, and a lighter modern sensibility. From across the room the cabinetry nearly recedes into the architecture — walls and cabinets share a similar tone, so the kitchen sits quietly within the open space. Up close, the details unfold: custom V-groove paneling on the island, slab fronts, and solid bronze hardware that will keep developing with age.
