An extensive remodel of a hillside house in the Sierra foothills, reworked around its lake views. Every main room now faces the water or the hills, and the interior finishes stay warm and quiet so the landscape does the talking.

The great room carries a tongue-and-groove vaulted wood ceiling with a corner wood-clad fireplace and full-height glass to the deck. The kitchen is a working galley: black marble-veined stone counters, an island cooktop under a stainless hood, and ribbon windows that keep the hill view in the room instead of a tiled backsplash.
